Appropriate ED blood testing.

This measure assesses the percentage of children younger than 18 years of age identified as having sickle cell disease (SCD) presenting to an emergency department (ED) with fever during the measurement year, who had a pulse oximetry reading, complete blood count, reticulocyte count, and blood culture within 60 minutes following initial contact.

Numerator: Children under 18 who had a pulse oximetry reading, complete blood count, reticulocyte count, and blood culture within 60 minutes of initial contact. Four rates will be reported, one for each test type.

Denominator Statement: Children identified as having SCD who presented to the ED with fever.
